Yeah mate, that sounds like a decent idea. Happy for it to become part of the knowledge base of the site. It may help some members to know what they are getting when they choose a light. At this stage I’m only displaying the spectrum, giving a PPFD reading from the central point of the light, color temp and CRI. There is a lot more data that comes with each reading but I figure these basic ones I’m listing have the biggest impact on the performance of the light. There is other light specs that I think are quite important, like the components, drivers , chips etc. These factors can play a big role in longevity of the light and the speed of output and spectrum degradation. I’m really just trying to keep it fairly simple at this point but if anyone wants any other tech parameters on any of the lights I test, I’m happy to share any data.

Hi Saw,
So a simple as possible explanation-
PPFD is Photosynthetic Photon Flux density which is basically the amount of plant useable light that is being emitted from a light source. Different colours in the spectrum will hold more value in the equation depending on the plants ability to use the part of the spectrum. For example 660nm deep red holds the highest value in the equation as plants use this part of the spectrum most efficiently and it is the peak part in the spectrum where photosynthesis occurs.
The colour temperature of the light is an indication of the mix of light colors in any particular light. To generalise, the more red in the spectrum the lower the color temperature usually is and the more blue the higher the color temperature will be. A good Vegative/growth temp will usually be between 4000-7000 kelvin where a more ideal flowering color temperature would be more like 2000-4000 Kelvin. This is very general and feel free anyone to broaden this explanation.
CRI is the color rendering index. The importance of this factor has been recognised more in recent years for its importance when it comes to photosynthesis. CRI is measured from 0-100 and the higher the CRI generally, the higher the quality of the emitted light and the easier it is for a plant to convert the light energy. Again, very general explanation and anyone feel free to add to that.
The white reference line is a graph so to speak of the light spectrum and levels a cannabis plant can use that was created by a U.S. scientist. The plants don’t need all of this spectrum but it’s what’s absorbable by the cannabis plants and to what levels it’s capable of. I consider the right side of the graph very important for good flowering results and like to see most of that covered by a grow light.

This set up cost me almost 6K. It was the best handheld set up available at the time(maybe still is)
I know a lot of you guys are going to think I’m fucking nuts spending that sort of $ on a tool like that

i have a fluence spydrx plus just under 700w it's an older one now but be nice to test it , at the time they used to say you can only run it at 80% unless you have c02 in the grow space

These digi lumens are probably one of the best bang for your buck lights getting around currently. Spectrum IMO is really good. CRI is good, output isn’t as good as I would have hoped and a bit lower than some of the other good brands at similar wattage.

Here's one for ya's.. I'm thinking of down-sizing and doing something along the lines similar to @afghan bob has going on. Whereas i have a 2' x 4' tent/cabinet where i raise them in vegetative stage, and stick them outside to flower. Just wonder, what's a good full spectrum LED light for that size tent these days?

I’ve found the larger wattage lights that only run 6 bars produce a fair bit more heat than ones that run more bars. A 6 bar 720watt will get a lot hotter than an 8 bar 720 watt. Less bars mean lower production costs though and cheaper lights.
