Morning all

I only joined last week and have been looking through as I wanna start up having a small outdoor grow. Only problem I am running into is finding reliable and affordable seeds. I know there’s hit and miss orders from overseas but I personally don’t have the time or money- if anyone can point me towards the best option or even wants to have a chat about starting off growing I would be greatful as.

Welcome. It can all be super overwhelming at first when it comes to sources and methods.

I'm lucky I started outdoors back in 2014ish when I was completely unaware of seed markets, strains and forums. Was easy enough to just chuck some bag seed in some pots outside and then into the garden bed. Got some super nice keepers over that time too, so don't get too caught up in needing the latest and greatest for your first run.

Wasn't until I started growing indoors in 2020 that I looked at seeds and all that. Sometimes I wish I can go back to a time before hype strains and shit.

Ahaha yea I get that, I’m not too fussy luckily. I’ve sowed like 20 bag seed over the past 3 months and none were viable seed- but I would’ve been happy with a little bum bush weed

I was going hard a good 10 yrs before you, and would been around 2014 got balls to pay for them. It sure was good times, but after many yrs of wildly variable results where bag seeds would go Hermie and screw every plant. Then next yr a few good ones or a heap males to waste time over. Never looked back once able to get stable seeds, wish I had them from start

Most of us are Qld, humidity mold is a large issue with a lot of strains
Yea I figured it would be a trouble. No other way to get around it than to just try and fail and try again I guess. At this rate ill be missing the end of wet season and wet march so hopefully can get in before the cold snap

You've probably heard of autos, I'm a big fan of them, it's made possible to run genetics more of the indica line and avoid the worst of the rainy season, as well as getting bud in summer , extended the outdoor season harvest instead of the autumn gamble, 1 shot a yr. Why indoor can be so good with diff harvest times, but I can't do indoor. My last lot came from same place I recommended but you have to ask them there not on that website, mango smile was especially good, super Skunk as well. It's convenient knowing from seed to harvest around 11 wks ull be cutting down. Because these plants are relatively small, up to 3ft easy to hide or move if needed, seeds can be relatively expensive for the overall yield, so while I buy plenty I also use STS to make fem seeds as well

Yea I’ve heard a lot but I’ll definitely have a look at the place you mentioned. I am keen to try whatever and I am sure autos would be best bet but is it true they give a low yield? I’ve heard they respond poorly to training

They can yield decent amounts, indoors would definitely yield better compared to throwing them outdoors, they can be trained but they definitely can be unforgiving to new growers.

I've got a few Mephisto auto reproductions and crosses which I sent in for the comps if you are game enough to give them a go. Gotta win first though 😏🤣

Autos are consistently better at avoiding bud rot than photo strains, I have found. And ud be harvesting in Feb if started now. In terms of the time they grow for the yield is ok in my opinion, there are some basic things U can do which help a lot. If you have a good indoor setup, you get the luxury of using terms like Training and yield. Believe me there is that many things that can go wrong outdoors, from weather, pests, mold, stolen, bad genetics. I guess point is you can fill jars in Feb, if U wait till the photo season ends around April, and get hit by bud rot or something and have nothing for all your efforts it's pretty grim. I aim for half an ounce dry per auto outdoors, iv had smaller and bigger, but average out, that's what I get, if you run any auto you can find don't expect much, Mephisto make mango smile and other good ones, they are quality plants.

What's your best yield from an auto?
