Hmm, s'pose it wouldn't hurt to throw $35-$50 at one just to check em out. Come to think of it, I mightve bought one yonks ago, I'll check my box of tricks first.

Cheers, mate. (y)

Found it, this one states it does 50x to 500x.

It seems to work pretty well for a cheapie, but unfortunately, the magnification is definitely on the higher end of scale to what I'm looking for. As I really want to get back in the range of a jewellers loupe, preferably as low as the 10x range and up. Here's a seed from a 2014 harvest..

I’ve got a cheap loupe that is x15, I’ve found it useless. The magnification wasn’t enough to see the triche’s and you can’t look at the bud on plant as you have to have the bud right up against the loupe. Maybe x30 might be better, but you’re still having to pull buds to examine them.

Yeah, I've got few Loupe's and from what I've found the 60x is pretty spot on for checking out tri's. The idea of being as low as 10x is to have some range either side of the 60x. The 50x seems a little too close.

Picked this up today, looks similar to the one Indy dug out.
There is a guy stocking them for $18 so hard to go wrong. Lowest magnification is a bit high (I'm guessing 60x as it is up to 1600x) and the snap button doesn't work on android so you need to tap the screen, pretty hard to get a good pic but you can definitely check trichs
Phone idea is probably better just because you can go 2 handed and autofocus P_20220708_143952.jpg220708_143629.jpg220708_142537.jpg

Cool. I'm about to try the same thing soon, mate. (y)

After Kee Mao reminded me with this post, I finally dug up a Female USB to Male Type-C connector, and grabbed the MScopes Android App.

I'll have a crack myself tomorrow when the lights are on.

I'm using an app called USB camera, I tried a few and found the snap button worked. Funny thing is on my tablet I need a different app so I guess try a few and keep the one that works.

What’s the consensus on ideal or useable magnification? I was looking at the ones you place over an iPhone camera lens so i could use the large viewing area of my phone screen rather than squinting through a traditional jewellers loupe - but most seem way too high a magnification (200x) … is 100x workable? … would have thought 40x - 60x would be the ideal range
