Sounds like you’ve made a good start already with the grow kit and seeds. Every grow you will be upgrading no doubt

In a 2x4 I would at least grow two plants. That way you fill out the tent and get to practice on more than just one plant.

If you know how to train plants then one could be grown to maximise that space but just learn to grow first

That Bunnings mix above seems good though I had ok result going just pinegrow coco and perlite 70/30 split. Using coco based nutes.

Another point to consider is how attentive to them you want to be.

Water/feed every day with drain to waste,
Passive feed once or twice a week in bottom wicking planters,
Proper soil that doesn’t need to be soaked water weekly.

Having half an idea of what style you want to grow in will save you hassles later. My first grow I really had no idea. Overwatering soil, fungal gnats, then burning plants at the end. I think once you pick a grow style then just read up on what to expect start to finish.

Are coco nutes much different to others? I have some hydroponic nutrients for other stuff I've been growing (vegetables) but they're not coco specific. Would they still work in coco?

I use 60% coco peat and use normal nutes..
the coco nutes just have extra calcium and magnesium in them .
so you can get by on normal nutes ,and if the need arises you just nick out and get a bottle of Cal-Mag..

Auto pots are great for veg but once in flower they cause wet feet and will ruin a good grow.

But you see the coco specific, hydro specific, soil based etc.
if you have experience with hydroponic veggies then cannabis will be easy.

Not a lot of experience really. I tried to grow some hydro lettuce when prices were crazy, with varying levels of success.

Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect . You can't go wrong. 3 part mix . No ph pen or any of that shit.

I've been using this for years never gone wrong it's about 20 clams for 18litres, I mix it with perlite, worm poo from the worm farm and some fresh compost from from the bin and I top it off with about 3 scoops off blood and bone for a 25 litre pot.
My plants love it and it isn't full of slow release shit.
I get it from my small town mitre 10.

Seed raising mix are mainly peat plus stuff. Without the big chucks of bark etc.

I’ve actually made a decent planter box blend for my berries using

Jiffy 70L bag of peat/coir/perlite.
Seamungus pellets
Rooster booster
Worm castings
Blood and bone
Rock dust.

I plan on trying the mix out with cannabis but had already started last grow before mixing it up. Next round I’ll run a planter and compare to other media.

Yea I found the Searles to be the best quality had a few other brands over the years that were full of bark or flat out just killed seedlings.
I like to keep my soil simple with lots of compost and worm poo can't go wrong
