Do you know what type of seeds you already have, and how big is the tent? You will need a suitable grow light for the tent and plants when you get them going.
Hi Stackr,
Yeah the ones I currently have are feminized photo-periods, and the tent I have is a spider farmer kit thing I got from amazon. It's a 2x4 and it came with a light and whole bunch of stuff. No doubt it's not the best, but I just wanted something to get started with.

Great, the feminised seeds are good to start with.
It is good to plan ahead with your grow, next steps are setup the tent and germinate some seeds, smaller pots will be ok initially, but then you will need big pots to transplant.
For your first grow you could just use a premium potting mix or some of the upmarket specialty mix (that come at a cost). Consider how many large pots you could fit in the tent and work back from there, best to err on less than more so its not too crowded.

Thanks Stackr, I appreciate you helping out. I only intent to grow one plant at a time to start with.
I don't suppose you're talking about something I can get from bunnings huh

NAh don't get potting mix or soil from bunnings.. I feel like i advertise for Canna terra lol I think you would be best with Coco or Terra or a mix of both.

Don't buy any of those dirt cheap slow release potting mixes.

I would have to agree, pretty much all the Bunnings bagged soils are crap IMHO. They've normally been stored badly and are either dried out crap or over wet crap with bonus gnat infestation ...the only consistency being that they are crap :ROFLMAO:

If Bunnings is you're only option, then you can make yourself a decent base "soil" using a bag of Searles 5-in-1 (not the pellets) [$10], a bag of the PineGro coco [$15] and 25L of perlite [$10]. That'll make you 80L of medium for the grand total of $35!

There is enough nutrition in there to get you through seedling stage and into veg. You could then go the "organic" top dress path or feed using more common salt based nutes such as Canna Terra A+B, H&G Soil or something similar.

Just a note - The big green snag shed does sell perlite, but I'd recommend you get it from anywhere else (if you can) ...@$30/25L it's a fucking rip off! You should be able to get a 100L bag for ~$40 from most garden centres / hydro stores. If you don't want that much then places such as Dr Greenthumbs have 25L for $18 which is still better than Bunnings at least 🤷‍♂️

Most importantly though, were a mask when handling the perlite, the dust from that shit is nasty 😷

Thank you Pikey, I might go this way for my first try!

Can't find Searles 5in1 at Bunnings, and was that 25 litre or 5 litre of perlite?
Edit: and PineGro is great

Might only be available in QLD as Searles is a QLD company. Don't know what would be a compareable product in other states 🤷‍♂️

Yep, 25L of perlite (y)

-https://www.bunnings.com.au/brunnings-25l-perlite_p0274287 (if you have to)

This is by no means a complete "soil" but it is a good cheap to make base. Personally I only use it for my seedlings and the pot up to 200mm, then (once sexed) I plant into a much more complete Coots style mix that I make myself. Works out more cost effective when dealing with regs :)

Yeah, my bad. I should have made that clearer. It was $35 with the ingredients I used.

...but yeah, don't buy perlite from Bunnings (y)

All good bro, its just my pedantic, OCD shit I got to live with.

Edit: Pedantic is an insulting word used to describe someone who annoys others by correcting small errors, caring too much about minor details, or emphasizing their own expertise especially in some narrow or boring subject matter.
Yeah, so sorry too.
