I was delving into soil microbes and how to use them to help my garden in general before joining here, but this thread has really innoculated (😉) my knowledge on it and how many various ways to capture and get them to do the work they were meant to do 🍻.... A long way from my 'throw a kg of Yarra Milla/30m² MO before this!

i've got lots of pics but they are unorganized & all over the place on diff drives & other computers , so finding stuff like flowering plants in earthboxes is difficult but i found this , here is the plant that was in the mycelium bloom soil pics i posted in the last post

that earthbos holds 2 cubic foot of soil , that soil volume is not something i would recommend however the consistent moisture sub irrigation offers , the constant top dressing & probiotics makes a eathbox preform like a much larger pot

i'll get you the recipe for grokashi

All mixed sans the perlite.
Added 4L of water/gogo and didn't want to add any more. Nothing drips out but I think it might just be on the cusp if I add more liquid.
Going to leave it in the shell till I add the perlite and then put it in the black bin.

The closer zoom really makes it look more sandy than it really is so ignore that.
Only the 1st image and last video have had liquid added.

Yeah, the other half of the clam shell will be going on it tonight.
Perlite tomorrow, stupid weekend hours.
I'd have got it yesterday but a 3 year old was being really difficult, we were supposed to go out at 11.... We ended up going out at 3.30 and the hydro place closed at 3 :/.

Hey in future, I'd quarter the amount of kelp and at least cut by 1 quarter that amount of potash. Sulphate of potash is on average 43% potassium. That's a huge amount of potassium which will compete with calcium and even cause phosphorus issues earlier in veg.

Kelp is good in small doses. At that amount you are adding a large amount of sodium which also antagonises calcium/magnesium uptake, not to mention the high level of arsenic in kelp which get sucked up into the biomass of cannabis quite efficiently. Just some tips

Will keep I mind for next year.
What do I need to research for the potassium issue? Ie what causes the issues?

Didn't really think of sodium in this whole equation, but I did read that kept doesn't necessarily absorb Na, so is it residual from taking it from the ocean?

The Arsenic, yeah that'd have been nice to know, if you had seen my start on this I was planning on using 35mg/kg Cd fertiliser pellets and tried realllly hard to get away from that lol.

Wouldn't the arsenic be in all the seasol that is used throughout many grows?

I haven't tested Seasol so I don't know. I have tested kelp and I've found Tasmanian to be the highest in As at 100ppm. It's very high in sodium too... Obviously it's beneficial but in the right amount. There's no issue with potassium, just add the right amount and you'll be fine.

I remembered brand the stockist said it was and found an analysis, what were the Na levels you got in your testing? (So I can compare to this one :) ).

So my compost pile was basically full of an old grass clippings pile from scalping the lawn last year, with a load of humus/soil and dried grape wine twigs from the general area when cleaning it up (there's some scoria in there because previous owners had that shit all over, so this first batch isn't going to be great in that regards).
It had definitely run out of nitrogen juice but I had a nice wall of canna Lillies that needed cutting down so layered that up in between the carbon. Hoping the water content just keeps it nice and damp along with the winter rains and it decomposes relatively quickly.
Won't be any shit in the next batch as it'll be solely grass clippings and garden waste that I can cut to size, and will probably get a mulcher at some point to get everything nice and small to go in it, as there'll be fruit tree prunings and other slightly harder stuff that will just benefit from a mulching!
Current content that basically just gave up, you can see the stones and twigs and shit that I just piled into it when I was cleaning up Screenshot_20230723_150602_Gallery.jpg20230723_143815.jpg20230723_143820.jpg20230723_150106.jpgScreenshot_20230723_150602_Gallery.jpg

This is what works for me:

50% high quality potting soil ( I use baileys but best you can get in your area, preferably local)
50% hydroponics grade coco
A very light sprinkle of dolomite lime
And mix
I water with Canna Coco A&B at 1.6 ec and seaweed every so often

Do you not add additional aeration, or just use what the potting mix has in it (assuming it has added perlite anyways?).

I was tossing up between simple soil and hydro nutes (as I think that's what Bob does and has great results), but in the end went with super/living soil. Although if I need to supplement at flowering I'm very tempted to get soon flowering nutes to add!

This year is a test run, so next year I'll have a better idea and can amend my SOP.

Chees, that was a summer pic after I got it all nice for Xmas then I let it go and now it's winter and is average lol. Needs a good scarify and core though, which I'm hoping to do this spring. Also need to throw some PGR on it because it's Kikuyu and that shit grows fast with 20mm of water a week!

So my area is getting fuller.
Just got this little1400x700x2000 greenhouse (tied and weighted the fuck down) to propagate the veggies and annuals, and figure it should be perfect for the beans as I'm not doing lights inside to start them off.
Going to hook it into the irrigation and get some misters in there so it'll be automated with a shut off valve if it doesn't need any more moisture.
Just need to fence this area off and hopefully the 30 year old grape vine goes bananas and gives some privacy from the back fence.
Not much I can do about the smell though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Compost pile got a load of lawn clippings and a water as it seemed pretty dead with all the brown stuff that had been sitting for 8 months, even with all the cana lilies. Going to add some molasses to it to see if I can kick start it if I don't feel anything happening soon :/
