The "Snuffleupagus fish" refers to the Hairy Ghost Pipefish (Solenostomus snuffleupagus), a newly described species of marine fish discovered in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It was named after the famous, furry Sesame Street character because of its long snout and shaggy, filament-covered body.

Quick Facts:
  • Appearance: They are extremely tiny—measuring roughly 3 to 5 cm (about the size of an AirPod)—and are covered in long, hair-like filaments that help them camouflage perfectly among floating red algae and seagrass.
  • Habitat: Found in the southwestern Pacific, including areas off Queensland (the Great Barrier Reef), Papua New Guinea, Tonga, and New Caledonia.
  • Behavior: Like seahorses, their close relatives, they are masters of stealth. Despite their delicate and adorable looks, CT scans revealed they are actually predators that consume smaller fishes rather than just plankton.
  • Discovery: The fish evaded scientific classification for roughly 25 years. Marine biologist Dr. David Harasti first photographed the elusive creature in 2003, but it wasn't until a team of researchers formally found and studied specimens that it was officially described.

I remember, not that long ago, the shire was pulling out old redgum reflectors (because we are remote backwater of the state) on old back roads and people went and knocked them off because they where such good wood lol. They were on a trailer all piled up. A lot of wood workers got their hands on them and what remained they decided to donate to the school or mens shed or some working charity I think lol

Same with rail road sleepers with Victorias Inland Rail Build. The sleepers where piled up and everyone and there family and dog and trailer were there helping themselves to the sleepers. Turned out they weren't free :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: coppers tried to do an investigation but got no where lol same with the reflectors
