Peyote can take years to mature mate. If mescaline is what you’re after you’re best looking at the San Pedro or Peruvian torch.
I’ll add to this that growing either from seed can be an absolute cunt. If mescaline is what he’s after a san Pedro pup or clone to plant would be much preferable. They’re available all the time on gumtree/marketplace.

I’m growing three small peyote’s grafted to trichos atm.

Sown seeds a few months ago but not one peyote seedling sprouted.
However all the scopulicola hybrid sown at same time are thriving.

I too want to grow lots of peyote but it’s a hard one to get going and slow to see progress

If you do manage to get seeds to sprout, look into pereskiopsis as grafting stock.

But like others said. If you just want mescaline then go the tricho option and look online for pups instead of seeds.
