Thanks for the invite. I haven’t grown weed since university days which was outdoors. Been a professional so kept on the low down. Coming towards the end of my career and been watching my uncle struggle to get decent grows. Thought it would be a good bonding experience to help him improve his grows and get back into a hobby I reckon I will enjoy. A geologist by trade and work away week on week off but my aunt and uncle live down the road for a bit of support. I did some botany too so have a fair idea but could lean on you guys to speed up the learning curve. Live in the tropics so have a few benefits and disadvantages. I plan on doing some autos outdoors and got a 5 x 5 I’m getting ready to set up. I have been doing my research, but want a to grow a light soil mix of my own design with supplements. Needs to be somewhat automated so still thinking through the first indoor ever. I’ve been stalking the reddit feeds for pictures of filthy buds, but find the culture there somewhat dubious. Looking forwards to the trials and tribulations, and some good advice from what seems to be genuinely great group of enthusiasts.

good luck with ya projects mate

imo watering is the biggest thing to get right , if you over or under water in a great soil mix or cheap potting mix the end result will be the same = average looking plants

look into blumat gravity fed watering system which will automate the watering for you , if your away & someone has to care for the plants all they really have to do is keep the reservoir topped up until your return

the other option are wicking pots like the green smart pot which would be a little easier to setup than a blumat system , not that a blumat system is hard to setup just a wicking pot would have less moving parts but would be the same if someone else has to care for the plants , all they have to do is check if the wicking pot reservoir is empty & needs filling , if not do nothing

i prefer soil to grow in myself but there are many options that guys on here can help ya with if needs be

anyway welcome 🙏

I decided the self wicking pots to be the go to for my situation. The AC infinity XLs seemed to have good things said about them. I also invested in a pumped reservoir system to run through a smart plug if required but will ease into that with some trials while I’m at home before putting my trust in it. I’ve already had some issues with too much loving on the outdoors grow… but live and learn aye. Agreed over and under watering seems to be the biggest issues for new growers from what I can see. Appreciate the solid advice.
