I think it would be the ease of mixing for him I've seen him tip out whole res tanks because he's been to stoned and can't remember what step he's up to haha

i paid $50ish for my dry ingredients and have made up 2 bottles of similar sizes of each as my stock solutions with probably enough dry ingredients for 5-10 more. I also use final solution strengths far higher than what most of those pre mixes will tell you to dilute to for reasons mentioned in the thread others have linked earlier.
