Yup sweet as. I don't even trust the fucking hop pellets now that I've opened the pack. I'll give it all a quick boil
No need to boil the hop pellets, as there should be enough alcohol & sufficiently low pH to suppress any nasties. Plus, if you boil them, you'll get extra bitterness.

If you want to heat-pasteurise hops/coconut infusion, keep it below 80C, that will do the job of pasteurising very quickly.

Kegged the coconut beer this afternoon. Tried it uncarbonated.
Drinkable.
Definitely tastes like coconut.
Don't know how I feel about it just yet lol

Way too early to tell right now. Give it some time to settle down, carbonate & get rid of the rough edges. It may yet surprise you!

Goodonya for giving it a go & hope you kept good notes in case you want to tweak it.

Got some hops rhizomes in the mail.

Planted 4 Apollo zomes on the 23rd and saw one break ground on 30th

Also received a Chinook and a dr rudi that are yet to pop up

You are about to experience explosive vegetative growth, the likes of which no cannabis grower would ever comprehend. I'm talking 15-30cm a day if you keep the water & nutrients available to them. I hope you've already got your trellises sorted-out & keep the strains separate as they grow. You're gonna need them.

You have at least 3 shoots already in the 'zome sprouting in that 1st pic.(y)(y)(y)

Cheers mate, you aren't wrong, the shoots are growing crazy fast. I've planted next to a large chain link fence to utilise as a trellis. I did plant varieties next to each other but I am kind of hoping for some cross pollinating to see what comes out of it.. 🤷

Erm....I'm guessing you haven't grown hops before, eh?

How much vertical space have you allowed for them? They'll go 6M+ if you give them that much to grow into.

Humulus Lupulus (ie. Hops) means "Wolf of the Hedgerow" in Latin. A chain-link fence for trellis is a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad idea & going to put you in an absolute world of hurt come harvest-time & you won't be able to separate the varieties. They'll grow into & over absolutely anything & everything they can find to support their growth (including each other!).

One of my plans for my place is to grow hops in large pots & have them trained horizontally to cover the underside of a laserlight roof over the patio - providing shade during summer & once they're harvested, cut them right back to let light in during winter.

I thought about growing hops a few years ago, at your place specifically lol. That round garden out the back paddock would be perfect with the high fences.
I even download the nsw dpi guidelines to hops farming. I’ll see if I still have it somewhere

The fence on that round yard is lower then the one they're planted against now. If I put the effort in, I might be able to run something from top of fence across the veggie garden and attach to the carport I'm knocking up atm so they shade parts of the garden

Do they smell good? Id give them a go along my pool fence but never seem to find any at the local shithole Bunnings.
Nothing like weed haha but produce some floral smells when squeezed. They feel like tissue wrap, quite interesting.

You'd have better luck at a nursery finding hops but I ended up buying from eBay in the end

I've recently made a few sours using lachancea thermotolerans yeast and had a mate pass on an out of date kettle soured one he had. Threw a new yeast in it and sent it along with a pale ale for something different that I was planning of trialling a stone & wood citrus raddler type clone on this week but it seems the sour yeast has stuck around in the fermenter from previous brew and turned my pale ale sour also...

So nothing but sours for me for the next couple weeks.. anyone want a beer?

Nothing but sours FOREVER if you use those plastic fermenters again. It might be possible to save them with a complete disassemble & nuking everything with strong bleach solution for a week or so, but once those nasties are entrenched, no amount of cleaning/sanitising will save them. Keep them for sours only & get new ones for "proper" beers.
