Gotta start them in a little tray of Coco. I started mine in a meat tray (with holes for drainage).
What you do is sprinkle the seeds on-top of the wet Coco (don't bury them or else they die), keep them in a storage container and they'll sprout fairly quickly.
Dense/compacted dirt won't work as well. Gotta be babied a little before throwing them outside but they'll grow like weeds in shitty conditions after that.
Yeah sounds about right, could even be shorter, once they take off they grow super fast, massive leaves too.
My last go at it planted about 5 young plants in a small garden bed and got a few kilos of wet leaf from doing sweet fk all, they basically grew themselves.
Drying is the most labour intensive part unless you make a kiln dryer.
Gotta dry it very slowly or else it's green and harsh, gotta stack the leaves and throw them in a box, shuffling everyday to stop them from getting mould, they go from dark green to yellow hence the name gold leaf, once it's yellow you then hang it to dry out until it's like leather, can chuck it in the sun for a bit too. Starts getting it's sweet baccy smell then, chop her up and its good to smoke.
Last time I heated it up in the slow cooker which they reckon takes some harshness away but you gotta keep turning it and spraying over with water or a mix of alcohol (port/rum whatever) and water.
As Vinny said you’re a wealth of knowledge @Goonie Goat
Great run down, I have the seeds but hate tobacco.
But, you’ve motivated me to chuck a few in this year just for fun.

I only smoke when I have a few drinks (which is rarely ever), but family members think the homegrown is alot better than any store bought stuff and even reckon they get barely any stains on their fingers compared to to the store bought tobacco (if that's anything to go by).
Which variety do you have? At one point I had Burley and Black Samson seeds which I foolishly gave away for a Christmas present ..
Virginia Gold is the most popular tobacco for cigarettes. The 3 varieties I had were apparently used in Camel cigarettes (Virginia Gold, Burley TN95 and the Black Samson Oriental).
Wish I had the chance to experiment with different blends. Burley can be smoked by itself but can be pretty rugged, blending Virginia Gold makes for a more pleasant smoke, any oriental varieties are only to be added sparingly (10-15% if that) for flavour as its sour/bitter.
If not growing it for smoking you can use it as a pesticide, steep leaves in water to make a tea, the nicotine will work as a neurotoxin, paralyzing insects and killing them
N. PERSICA X 50 SEEDS. Different enough in fact, that it was once considered a different species "Nic0tiana persica". we do not condone the use of any of our plants in any particular way. NO ENVELOPES!
Perique is rare! Over the 12-18 month period, it takes on a very rich and pungent aroma. on its own Perique is a very dry & spicy herb, with a figgy and almost vinegary edge. N. Perique SEEDS X50.
Cuban Shade SEEDS X50. we do not condone the use of any of our plants in any particular way. NO ENVELOPES!

My pick would be a mix of Virginia Gold and Burley as the bulk filler (bread and butter) and the Shirazi (added sparingly like salt and pepper for flavour)
Piloto can be used to bump the strength up but could be harsh unless properly flue cured.
A mate of mine gave me two little packets of seeds 10 years ago. They are labelled as two different species, but not the cultivars. I've got no idea where they got them. Tiny little things. Never known what to do with them. Tobacco is a petty plant, but haven't had the space, reason or need to try. I'd be curious to know what the seeds can do
