Hi Slash what do think about the mammoth lights especially the one with the emerald green spectrum?
Hi mate, I know little about the Mammoth lights at this point and have never come across one yet. Mammoth is a reputable brand and I would expect them to have a decent light. You can get a bit of an idea by what components they are running to get a general idea of the lights potential. I’ll take a bit of a look at them on line and see if I can give you a general opinion on whether they might be good. Sometimes the big brand lights can be a bit pricey for what you get.

Here's one for ya's.. I'm thinking of down-sizing and doing something along the lines similar to @afghan bob has going on. Whereas i have a 2' x 4' tent/cabinet where i raise them in vegetative stage, and stick them outside to flower. Just wonder, what's a good full spectrum LED light for that size tent these days?
Hi mate, if I was going to use the light/lights for just vegging under before flowering outside, I would look at lights with a veg spectrum/higher blue. There’s some good ones out there these days. If on the other hand you want the option to be able to flower under it, I’d go for a normal full spec, or better still get a light with adjustable spectrum, veg and bloom channels which is the type of lights I prefer to work with.

Hi Slash what do think about the mammoth lights especially the one with the emerald green spectrum?
Hi mate,
Had a bit of a read up on the Mammoth and it seems good in many ways, I am just a little dubious about the spectrum they are using and I can’t find a spectral chart for them anywhere. They have high end components using High end Samsung diodes and the Evo mint greens are the most efficient with highest output there is currently. The problem with the mint green is the spectrum misses the mark in a way for horticultural lighting so if you use too many in a single array then you end up with more green and yellow than a plant can use so it ends up being wasted energy. Theoretically on the spectral charts I’ve published, any time any colour peaks above the white line, it becomes light energy the plant can’t use, therefore becoming wasted energy. Plants only need and can use a quite limited amount of yellow and green light. The thing that would worry me the most about this light is the spectral peak is at 437nm. Most high performing lights have a spectral peak somewhere close to 660nm deep red which is the peak of the spectrum for photosynthesis and the point in the spectrum for flower development and makes most sense to me for that to have the peak at 660. I can only guess that the use of the mint greens is the reason for this.

Hi mate, not sure if you wanted my personal opinion on this question or not but if it where me and I had that space and was doing indoor/outdoor I think I would personally use a SuperTechLED QS2 Veg model. First reason is from my experience, using a bluer veg style light for vegging and then the change of spectrum when going out into the redder spectrum of the sun seems to ignite the flowering and in my opinion you will get better results this way. I think this is also true indoors and if you veg with a higher Kelvin light then use lower Kelvin for flowering, the plants respond well to it, I’m pretty sure it’s a hormonal response. Some of our more veteran growers may be able to relate that vegged with metal halide then flowered with HPS.
The second reason would be the coverage size would be ideal for that size.
I’ll also add one more reason is that they are damn good lights IMO

Cool.. Yeah, i wouldn't be looking at veg specific as i'd probably happy to finish some grows off with it as well.

In a 2ft x 4ft I think a Quantum board style light will be most suitable. There’s plenty out there to choose from depending on what you want to spend. Something in the wattage range of 240w - 350w I think would be good for the job👍

@Indy the viparspectra xs3000 pro has probably the best par spread for a 2x4 footprint at a decent price.

Spectrum is odd though with a spike around 590-600nm over the usual 630-660nm spike. Has a standard 3000/5000/660 layout though so I don't know whether to trust their spectrum plot.

That's good to know. I just recalled, some time back i did a compile a DIY LED light utilising a mean well driver, and a couple questionable QB's i sourced Ali Express. The only use it has had is about 2 weeks over some seedlings a while back, so it hasn't had a good run to see how it actually performs.

I was going to upload picture, but Admin working on the site in the background at the mo.. I'll post it later.

That said, I'm between two decisions. Get some better QB's (if required), or source something new in the 240w-350w range as you mentioned. Also, you said QB's would be the go with that footprint (which you're probably right), but i'm also a sucker for bar lighting arrangements. Something 300w or a above would be something that would capture my attention. If there's anything new out there like that. I haven't followed the tech for a couple of years now, so the little i do know might be irrelevant today.

Nice find, mate. The XS3000 definitely ticks all the boxes. (y)

I'll look into further. IIRC, there was some speculation about their products/specs a few years back when they were kicking off. Hopefully they've got it together better in more recent times.

IMG_0891.pngThere’s some pretty good value 3 and 4 bar lights between 250-400w on Alibaba. They are mostly running top end components and delivered you are looking at 250-300 USD Perfect for 2 x 4 and good bang for your buck👍🏻
