Boys's is there a test to check for salt build up in your grow medium? what would be the best way to check

Stick some on my fish and chips? :ROFLMAO:

Measuring the EC of the runoff.
You'll begin to get lockout from the lower ph thats associated with high levels of salt too.
In my case the stems turn red and the leaves turn a sickly yellow colour, and they stop growing.

I don't take runoff as gospel, but Id usually check runoff EC once every week when in Coco just to make sure it isn't creeping up or down over time.

The effects will also compound when the medium dries back inbetween feeds too as you will be measuring EC and pH in a state of saturation after a feed hence why you always wanna keep the moisture levels in Coco stable. When saturated the rhizosphere might be fine pH and EC wise, but give it a few hours of dryback and the same medium will swing pH and EC drastically in the rhizosphere as moisture levels drop.

will do since I have the meter I will get a reading (y) will get PH level to of run off? should i do EC and PH off food tank also?

Tip burn on leaves is usually the first sign of high salt levels in the medium. As previously mentioned, testing the run off and comparing it to what the feed solution was is a good way to check salt levels and ph of the medium.

Will do and post I'm no good at tuning/adjusting yet, never had the tools to test mate, now I do (y)

ok boys here we go!

Feed tank PH 6.54 EC 1335 PPM
Dump tank PH 5.55 EC 2726 PPM

this is not a recirculate system, feed off feed tank, dump is waist dump, not recirculated.
I have never done this before remember? I was an old school HPS guy, no nutrient testing back then to expensive for the tools. Please teach me! I have learnt a ton from all the members here TSE has thought me a hell of a lot (y)

I'd drop the feed ec down to 700-800ppm / 1.6 ec

1335ppm is 2.4 ec which is pretty high and you're wasting nutes by the look of the runoff

Not sure how mate like mentioned no good at tuning in nutrient, I can tune cars! This is whats in my tank.

oh 2ml to 20 L nutes

and this at mid bud stage but only 1.5g to 20 L of nutes

Are you sure you read 1335ppm and not 1.3 EC?

you just have to use equal parts A and B,
Try 3ml of each per litre of water

Okay well i just go off EC, that mode button will change it, i just find EC is easier to work with as there's like 3 different conversions for ppm, so its confusing 😆..

I've never really needed to go over 1.8 EC, generally starting at 0.8ec to 1 ec at the younger seedling stage and moving upto 1.2ec to 1.6ec once they reach a decent size.

By the look of your readings, the plants are drinking more water than nutes, so dial it back a little if you think the plants look dark green with burnt tips.

So probably too much watering? maybe related to gnats too?

You'll always have gnats, especially now that its getting colder. The pricks of things like a nice warm grow tent.

Just keep doing what you're doing but with less nutrients

I would recommend that you give them a decent flush. Salts in your medium are high and PH of the medium is low which will generally happen as salt levels build. I would flush each pot with a low ec/ppm (around 400ppm/.8ec) at least double the volume of the the pot with a higher end range of PH around 6.3 until run off drops below 800ppm/1.6 ec. I would also recommend dropping your nutrient feed strength as 1300ppm is higher than you should need to run at any stage of your grow.

Thank you! I will give that a try sounds like great advice. I'm learning all about adjustments and this stuff to resolve problems and optimize the crop :) (y)

Shit no! yellow leaves, some thing is up flushing! the big leaves are going yellow after drop water times!

Should I flush the dump all the nutes and re adjust?
