Hey All,

Two reasons for this thread:
  1. to give everyone a quick brief about forum security
  2. to gather feedback and ideas on how to increase security
A fair bit of work has been put into safeguarding data on this forum. Without going into too much detail, I'll go over a few points here:
The website has been set up with data security in mind. All modules and pages are encrypted on the server side, all forms and editable fields are protected against SQL injection. The forum software, created by Xenforo, has no currently known exploits. The forum and website is hosted on a secure VPS with a masked IP address.
All of this can only help us go so far, a lot of the security breaches/hacking attempts we'll find will be user related. You can help protect yourself and other members of this forum by:
  • ensuring you don't use personal data at all. Names, addresses, phone numbers etc should never be used on this forum.
  • using a decent password that is at least 8 characters long.
  • using a vpn to access this forum (maybe a little too tinfoil hat like, but you can never be too sure).
  • not using this forum if you notice any site errors or certificate errors.
Remember, anyone can view the forum and any threads created. Only logged in members can post or view member details.

The chatroom we have in place is only available to logged in members. All chat greater than 24 hours old is deleted automatically.
All jpeg images that have EXIF metadata attached (camera type, GPS location, ISO etc) will have all of that metadata automatically removed too.
All software and server updates are done monthly to ensure the latest version is always used.

Please ask questions and make suggestions here.
