Its an RF excited lamp - microwave sulphur.


Interesting technology, but was a commercial failure. Newer models have better CRI and are spectrum tunable.

Unless they have made some huge improvements, best efficiency they got was is only 100l/w very average.

Latest Cree 3030's are running 200 lumens per watt.

Actually - I read the spec sheets - 57 lumens per watt. That's horrendous these days, better off with LEC \ CMH if gas discharge excites you still.
I posted as a mate won't stop bleating about it ...seen the specs now and you're right

Lumens are for humans, not plants. 20,000 lumens from incandescent isn't as good for plants as 20,000 lumens of HPS etc.

Too technical for me but I know that some grow lights with lower lumens will actually put out more usable light to the plants.
